Le mercredi 9 novembre 2022, de 10h à 11h, Janika Kunzmann (Université Goethe de Francfort) partagera ses recherches de Master avec une présentation intitulée Preliminary findings on the phonology of Mbum (Adamawa).
Résumé :
The Kebi-Benue language Mbum, or rather mbok mbum, is spoken across wide areas of the Adamawa plateau, mainly in Cameroon. Lacking a detailed phonological description, various phonetic and phonological features of the language are up-to-now undocumented, and its particularities unaddressed. Amongst these matters are e.g. the nature and behavior of tone, [-ATR] vowels and their arrangement in harmonic patterns, the distinctiveness of vowel length, and many others. My research tackles this descriptive gap – the phonology and tonology of Mbum – by studying the language as it is spoken today in Ngan-ha and Ngaoundéré (Cameroon, Adamawa Region). In my talk, I present current data and (preliminary) findings from recent research, and discuss peculiarities of the sound inventory, syllable structures and selected features of the tone system. As this research is still ongoing, open questions and unsolved phonological issues will be pointed out.
